Brooksville residents suffer without city mosquito control


Brooksville, Florida -- "They're horrible. I can't even walk outside for one minute and their swarming around my face everywhere," says Robin Rogers about the recent mosquito problem she's been dealing with in her Brooksville back yard.

"I have a son who's 12 years old with Down Syndrome and he can't even go outside to play," says Rogers.

The problem for Rogers is so bad in her back yard, in the 15 minutes that 10 News was there, reporter Casey Cumley was bitten and swarmed by at least a dozen mosquitoes.

Hernando Beach residents don't want Nature Center


Hernando County, Florida -- Quiet little Hernando Beach wasn't so quiet Tuesday at a planning and zoning meeting.

"This is not something I can accept," said resident Larry Scott.

Another Hernando Beach resident said, "I am completely against this whole proposal."

The proposal is for The Nature Coast Educational Plaza. A packed house held signs and voiced their disagreement with the changes that could come to Hernando Beach.

"Ultimately, I'm against it altogether."

McDonald's offers free breakfast for dads this Father's Day

McDonald’s thinks a delicious morning entrée will be the perfect Father’s Day gift, so they're inviting local fathers to enjoy and celebrate their day of honor on June 16, 2013, during their breakfast service hours.

From 5:30-10:30 a.m., fathers can head to any of the 191 McDonald’s locations across the Tampa Bay area for a free meal. Restaurant reps say no purchase is required, but fathers must be accompanied by a child, and there is a limit of one free offer per customer.

Last year, over 8,800 local fathers celebrated their morning with a complimentary meal.

Mail carriers collect food for Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!

Carrollwood, Florida - Mail carriers will take part in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Residents can leave non-perishable food item by their mailbox and the letter carrier will pick it up. The food will be donated to food banks to distribute to needy citizens.

Last year, over 70-million pounds of food was donated across the country.

If you cannot leave food items by your mailbox, you can drop it by your local post office.

Tampa, FL-- It seems early to start thinking of the holidays, but the Suncoast District of the U.S. Postal Service wants to inform its customers of their upcoming toy drive. 

10 News told you all about it earlier this month, but we want to make sure you give yourselves enough time to get out there and pick up a toy to donate.

The collection will take place on December 1, exactly two weeks from today!  The Postal Service will pick up the toys from customers who are able to leave them by their mailboxes, or in bins at the nearest post office.

On December 1, the Postal Service asks those customers who are able to leave unwrapped toys by their mailboxes, or in bins at the nearest post office. 

The toys will support the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to "brighten the holiday for less fortunate children."
