Abandoned Shih-tzus now ready for adoption

BROOKSVILLE, FL - Hernando County Animal Services says the Shih-Tzus that survived abandonment in November and deadly wave of Parvo at the shelter this month, are now ready for adoption.

Shelter officials say over 260 adoption applications were received for the dogs. Originally there were 64. Now there are only about two dozen.

Hernando County Commuity Relations Coordinator Brenda Frazier says "We are hopeful they will all be placed in homes quickly. "

Officials say as a result of the interest in adopting the dogs, and the smaller number of them, not all applicants will have the opportunity to adopt.

"We are encouraging those that do not adopt a Shih-Tzu to consider adopting another shelter dog as there are many in need of loving, forever homes," Frazier said in a statement from the county.
