Nick Cannon pricipal for a day

Brooksville, Florida -- "This is your principal Principal Nick Cannon and we're about to wow out!"

Superstar Nick Cannon made the announcement, letting Hernando High School know he was now in charge.

Hernando High students screamed as Cannon made his entrance on Tuesday morning. Cannon first had a meet-and-greet with students who were unable to come to his later assembly by signing autographs and taking pictures.

Nursing home beating victim dies

Brooksville, Florida -- An elderly man who was allegedly beaten by a security guard at an assisted living facility has died from his injuries.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office says on Saturday, 83-year-old Joseph Giambrone succumbed to injuries he sustained in the brutal attack. He had never regained consciousness after the beating.

Brooksville residents suffer without city mosquito control

Brooksville, Florida -- "They're horrible. I can't even walk outside for one minute and their swarming around my face everywhere," says Robin Rogers about the recent mosquito problem she's been dealing with in her Brooksville back yard.

"I have a son who's 12 years old with Down Syndrome and he can't even go outside to play," says Rogers.

The problem for Rogers is so bad in her back yard, in the 15 minutes that 10 News was there, reporter Casey Cumley was bitten and swarmed by at least a dozen mosquitoes.

Hernando Beach residents don't want Nature Center

Hernando County, Florida -- Quiet little Hernando Beach wasn't so quiet Tuesday at a planning and zoning meeting.

"This is not something I can accept," said resident Larry Scott.

Another Hernando Beach resident said, "I am completely against this whole proposal."

The proposal is for The Nature Coast Educational Plaza. A packed house held signs and voiced their disagreement with the changes that could come to Hernando Beach.

"Ultimately, I'm against it altogether."

Hernando County, Florida -- Authorities are suspending a ground search for a 74-year-old pilot who went missing earlier this month.

Bay area man living with lions for 30 days

Spring Hill, Florida - This is the time of year when a lot of people make New Year's resolutions to lose weight or spend more time with friends and family, but a Spring Hill man has a different goal in mind. James Jablon is living in a lion's den for 30 days.

Jablon, a wildlife rehabilitation expert, plans to spend the month of January inside the fenced enclosure where two African lions named Lea and Ed live. He says he will sleep on hay next to them and eat when they eat.

Hernando's new Sheriff holds first staff meeting

Brooksville, FL - Sheriff Al Nienhuis will hold his first official meeting with his staff and supervisors today at the Hernando County Sheriff's Office in the EOC Training Room, located at 18900 Cortez Blvd in Brooksville.

During the thirty minute meeting, Sheriff Nienhuis will address the full staff and present his leadership philosophies, management style and what his expectation will be of his staff.
