UPDATE: Missing Brooksville woman found


Brooksville, Florida -- UPDATE: The Hernando County Sheriff's Office says Rachel Schultz who went missing on May 24 has been located and was returned to her family. No further details were released on where she was found or her disappearance.

Man sought in death of Hernando teacher caught


Brooksville, Florida -- UPDATE: The Hernando County Sheriff's Office says the man sought in the death of Lee Anne Shoeman was located in Hillsborough County and is in police custody. However, he has been taken to an area hospital to be treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wounds. His condition is not known at this time.

Deputies have charged Jerome Sheridan in the murder of a high school teacher in Brooksville. Lee Anne Shoeman was an English teacher at Central High school. She was found dead in her home Monday.

1 dead after SWAT situation in Hernando county


Brooksville, FL - Officials say a standoff with Hernando SWAT has ended with the suspect's death.

The Sheriff's Office says the Hernando County SWAT team was called out to a home on Benes Roush Road on Monday morning, after a suicidal man had barricaded himself inside.

Deputies say the suspect, approximately 56 years old, was armed and had threatened to kill himself. While officers were on scene, the man fired shots in their direction, but no injuries were reported.

Brooksville officer injured in pileup out of hospital


Brooksville, Florida -- The Brooksville Police officer involved in a six-car pileup on Broad Street Tuesday morning is out of the hospital.

Officer Meredith Blackman was most seriously injured, but is doing much better tonight.

Brooksville child nearly drowns in pool


Brooksville, Florida -- A child is fighting for his life after nearly drowning in a pool on Mother's Day.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office says a family was visiting a home on Gordon Loop in Brooksville and was invited to use the swimming pool. An adult and a 3-year-old, identified as Hayden Somerstein, were in the pool area when the adult decided to go to a nearby shed to retrieve an item.

Victim's girlfriend says hit and run "ripped him away"


SPRING HILL, Florida— A 44-year-old man is recovering from serious injuries following a hit and run crash Saturday night in Spring Hill. State Troopers say Dave Smith was hit just before 9:00 p.m. on Landover Blvd. north of Thornberry Drive in Spring Hill.

"Dave is the funniest guy you'll ever meet," said girlfriend Danielle Gibbons. "When you're around Dave, you'll always have a smile on your face."

Friends and family say Smith is now fighting for his life.

Deputies shoot man threatening to burn down home


Brooksville, Florida -- A man suffered life threatening injuries after investigators say he was shot in a confrontation with Hernando County Sheriff's deputies.

The Sheriff's Office says a call came in Thursday morning about a possible arson at a home on California Street in Brooksville. The man who lives at the home, 69-year-old James Quenton Palmer, allegedly said he was being evicted and was now going to set the residence on fire.
